Are you entitled to park your car in front of your house if the parking is completely public?

While we all want to answer 'yes' to this question, we know that most often not the case. If the parking on your street is completely public, anyone can park their car wherever they want, even if it's right outside someone else's front door. You can ask them nicely to let you park your own car in front of your home, but street parking is notoriously 'first come first serve' and there is not much you can do if they refuse your request.

That being said, if someone is acting completely entitled and basically being annoying about always parking in one spot and refusing to give it up, there are still things that can be done. While you can't force someone out of their public parking space, there are still some tricks you could use to teach them a lesson, and maybe get that parking spot all to yourself. It all depends on how much you want it and how far you're willing to go while still following the rules.

The residents in the story below are dealing with a neighbor who not only parks one car in front of their front door, but she actually has two. One car is completely out of use, while she manages to always park the other in the space in front of someone else's home. Every time she leaves, and they try to park there, she magically shows up again and takes the spot. In all the time they've been living there, they only managed to park in front of their own home once.

While there's not much they can do about someone else taking a public spot before they do, they can still get back at this entitled neighbor. After all, there are plenty of rules against unregistered cars in most living areas, and if at least one car is gone, there is a whole new parking spot up for grabs.     ateacherks I'd probably focus on the unregistered vehicle. I know my apartment doesn't allow "project" vehicles at all. Every vehicle must registered and be in working order. Getting rid of the car that doesn't work will free up one spot.

    EDIT: For those of you saying "call the cops about the do car", we have. Multiple times. Specifically, the neighbors next to us. And each time, they speak to Gemma and tell her to move the car, she sweet talks her way out of getting towed (somehow), and they leave. BUT, today, 06/15/26, I'll be calling the police myself.
