Neighbor Takes Parking Spot and Expects Our Ring Camera to Monitor Her Car!

Hi there! Wanting some insight / advice. So I (29F) and my husband (28M) live in an apartment building that houses multiple people. Its us, then neighbor 2( R side of the

house) neighbor 3 (L side of the house) and neighbor 4 (right above us)
  • 04
In the beginning of the year, my husband and I did not have a car. Up until that point, neighbor 3 (we shall call her Gemma, and idk how old she is) was parking in front of our apartment door with
  • 05
her car. It is also important to note she has had a vehicle in front of our apartment already - a car that is both unregistered and de d, so in total, two vehicles that are parked in front of our apartment door.

Gemma has always been kind of e. She will blast loud rock music from her car at 7:00 AM for sometimes up to 30 minutes when my husband and I are both night shift workers. Her and her
  • 07
boyfriend will have full on screaming arguments outside our apartment window at 11:00 PM - 12:00 PM. She will sit on our porch while her son runs around and plays outside and leaves.

trash and toys on our steps. Most recently, she chased a friend out of her apartment at 2 AM and left all of his belongings on our porch and on the street. We ended up cleaning it up. Both
  • 09
neighbors 2 and 4 do not like Gemma. No one likes Gemma. We all tolerate Gemma.
  • 10
It is also important to note that us, neighbors 2 and neighbor 4 all have addresses on Street A. Street B (on yknow, the L side of the house) is where Gemma's address is.
  • 11
In April, my husband and I finally got a car. We were really excited and talked with all our neighbors about it, and everyone was really happy. Neighbors 4 moved in
  • 12
around this time, and Gemma tried to convince them we all have assigned parking (we do not but I kinda wish we did).

It has been impossible for us to park our car in front of our apartment thanks to Gemma. Everytime we come back home from work, she is parked directly in front of our porch I, right next
  • 15
to her dd car. If she isn't parked there, she will be if we ever leave the house. After neighbors 4 moved in, parking was even harder to come by. We often end up at the far end of the street,
  • 16
almost to where we would find the closest intersection. It's been annoying at best, so we haven't said anything.
  • 17
Our anniversary just passed, and my parents gifted us a Ring doorbell camera. We installed it on our porch, and when Gemma saw it, she told us with a laugh "oh good! Now if something
  • 18
happens to my car, I know who owns this camera so I can see what happened." This comment rubbed me the wrong way, but my husband has told me to let it go, so I have.

Yesterday, my husband and I were returning home from an errand, and we noticed Gemma right behind us in traffic, so we knew the spot in front of our apartment was open. Awesome! So we got
  • 20
to the apartment, and as we're backing into the spot, Gemma whips her car in so her hood is behind the back of our car, effectively jamming herself into the spot. My husband whips the car door open and shouts "hey!
  • 21
Whatre you doing??" and she says "oh, I figured you were pulling up so I was getting in behind you", and when he said no, we're backing in, she threw her hands up and said "okay,
  • 22
sure, whatever," and ended up parking in front of us — closely, I might add, almost sandwiching us between her car and her d ad car. We left later in the evening, and sure enough, when we got back, she'd taken the spot.
  • 23
At this point, I'm unsure what to do. I'm acutely aware we don't have assigned parking, and so I can't go to the landlord about it, but it almost seems like polite society is something that escapes
  • 24
her. We almost crashed vehicles yesterday! It's beyond frustrating, especially given there is tons of parking on Street B - you know, closest to her apartment- and yet she actively chooses to park in front of our door.
  • 25
Likely, I can't do anything. But it feels good to vent about it. So, thank you.
  • 26
Cygnata Report the d d car to code enforcement?
  • 27
ateacherks I'd probably focus on the unregistered vehicle. I know my apartment doesn't allow "project" vehicles at all. Every vehicle must registered and be in working order. Getting rid of the car that doesn't work will free up one spot.
  • 28
obxhead Read your lease about unregistered vehicles on the property. Most apartments have strict rules about all cars needing to be registered/insured/running.
  • 29
EDIT: For those of you saying "call the cops about the do car", we have. Multiple times. Specifically, the neighbors next to us. And each time, they speak to Gemma and tell her to move the car, she sweet talks her way out of getting towed (somehow), and they leave. BUT, today, 06/15/26, I'll be calling the police myself. Will update!
